My first interaction with Stephanie goes all the way back to 2018, when I had just launched Found and Flowered as a monthly subscription box - filled with themed paper, ephemera, and journal prompts.

She left a product review that said:

“This is EVERYTHING. I have been so excited for this box to arrive and oh my wow it is amazing. I love everything about it and my only problem is it only arrives once a month! Every single detail is unique, thoughtfully picked, and promotes inspiration. This was my first box and I plan to commit completely to a longer plan. Love love love!!!”

It made me so happy - every small business owner gets excited about a great review - but also, I felt like Stephanie got it. She really saw the why behind Found and Flowered. In her journal spread above, she uses the words, "the way to meet the most true self." And that's what journaling can do - when you are inspired to express yourself creatively, you grow as a person.

I made a journal spread from the review, because of course I did - a sentimental girl doing sentimental girl things.

Since then, Stephanie and I have stayed in touch through all the chapters of Found and Flowered. Somewhere along the way, we realized our creative brains worked in similar ways and we started connecting about “life things”. And that led to a conversation about creative ruts and one of its biggest culprits - hormones. Yep. Periods, perimenopause, mood swings, brain fog… if you’re reading this, you probably know what we're talking about.

We started talking about how we could do a collab piece for the newspaper, and, even though it's kind of unconventional, I felt like the topic of creativity and perimenopause was pretty relevant. With an almost all-female audience, I figured most of us would relate to a piece on how it feels to go through the waves of being and becoming, as a woman.

For the May 2025 edition - one filled with ocean imagery and metaphors - Stephanie is contributing a letter addressed to Ms. Peri Menopause. It's styled like a message in a bottle, tossed out to sea, meant to sink deep. Maybe to wash up on the shore of someone else who needs to hear affirmations of the same experience.

Take a cue from Stephanie and write through all of it. Journaling helps us release, reflect, and make sense of what’s beneath the surface. Whether you're writing, collaging, or just tearing paper with intention, it’s a way to clear the fog and reconnect with yourself - even if just for a moment.

Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing your experience - and making a “splash” in this summertime edition!
