It’s confirmed - we’re sick of screens and we love junk journaling.

I'm so excited to be included in this Boston Globe article about the growing wave of people turning to analog hobbies - things like crocheting, sewing, and junk journaling - as a way to step away from screens and find real community again. One option the article mentions? Found and Flowered junk journal events!

boston globe newspaper clipping about junk journaling

I'm quoted in the article saying that collectively, we're all a little worn out from the technology bubble, and that coming with that is a real craving for community. I hear this sentiment every time I run a junk journal event here in the Boston area. People come in a little curious, maybe a little unsure, and they leave so refreshed - they're proud they've made something with their own hands, learned something new, and actually talked to people who share their interests, instead of finding that connection online.

If you're not familiar with junk journaling, it's the practice of creating scrapbook-style journals using everyday materials that are often considered “junk” - like fruit stickers, branded coffee cup sleeves, shopping bags, packaging, etc. Most people also use upcycled materials and stationery and sticker finds. No experience is needed, and nothing has to be perfect. That's a big part of why it’s such a rewarding hobby - the goal is simply to create, not to create a masterpiece.

It means a lot to see the conversation about the benefits of crafting happening on a bigger stage. Whether you're in Cambridge, Somerville, or anywhere else in the Boston area, if you've been feeling that analog pull, you're not alone - and there's a seat at the craft table for you!

The next junk journaling event is coming up soon at Arts Collaborative Medford, and there are two ways to join:

Junk Journal Workshop - $40: Make a one-of-a-kind junk journal from upcycled book pages using a simple one-stitch bookbinding technique, then personalize it with envelopes, folders, vintage papers, washi tape, and more. Perfect for beginners and paper lovers. All materials provided and you'll leave with a completed journal ready to use.

Journal Night - $5: (New!) Already made a journal with us? Come back and use it! Join an add-on seat at any workshop night, bring your own supplies, and settle in for a cozy, unstructured creative evening - no instruction, just good company and uninterrupted time with your pages.

Register for the next junk journal event here!
